I guess being an oldest child I didn't suffer from the middle child syndrome nor do I understand what middle children claim as the middle child syndrome. Lately, as a parent, I have seen this with my middle child. He is usually the last one to get up in the morning, the last one to have his diaper changed, the last one to get dressed, the last one to eat, etc. He is a great kid and he does handle this very well, although he is very aware of the equality. He wants whatever his sister gets or has.
Anyway, so in honor of the middle child, this post is for you Ethan. Here are few things that he has done lately. He is 2-years-old and a few months.
1. He likes point and ask questions like Who's this? Then I respond Mommy, Daddy, baby, Kimee, etc. The other day I decided to ask him the questions. I pointed to a baby animal in his book, then a mommy animal in his book and he responded correctly. I pointed then pointed to myself. He responded Mommy. Then I pointed to him and said, Who's this? He responded "Mater." To his defense he was wearing Cars PJs and I did literally point to Mater. (I was thinking he would say Ethan.)
2. He likes to play hide and go seek. He will go hide (always in the same place under the bed) and then I will come look for him. I say joking, "Where is Ethan?" and then I hear a little voice from the under the bed, "Right here Mommy." If he gets impatient he will come find me and say "Here I am."
3. He shouts "amen" if the middle of the prayer if it is getting too long.
4. The second we get to church his starts saying, "Class, go to class." We have to entertain/distract him for the next hour until it is time for him to go to class.
5. (Carl would probably not want me to disclose this one but it is so cute.) He will dress up in a princess dress and then spin around and say."I cute princess." I will add though he LOVES his trains, tractors and trucks.
6. He has also learned to undress himself, which is good and bad. He likes to choose his clothes and he usually sports the PJ look all day. It is just the type of PJ that changes throughout the day.
7. This last one was what brought to my attention to the middle child syndrome. He will say, Mommy. If I don't respond in 2 seconds, he will start to yell MOMMMY!! Usually I have acknowledged him by now but he is persistant. He then comes over and grabs my face and makes me look at him and says "Mommy watch me now."
Ethan, we love you just the way you are.
